About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our national Health & Safety team and play a key role in shaping and delivering our health and safety strategy. As a senior technical specialist, you’ll provide expert advice across the organisation, lead on key programmes of work, and support continuous improvement in performance and compliance. You’ll operate with a high level of autonomy and act as an escalation point for complex or high-risk matters, as well as deputising for the Head of Health & Safety when required. This is a great opportunity for an experienced H&S professional who enjoys influence, leadership and driving positive change across a multi-site organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Provide expert legal and technical health and safety advice on complex and high-risk issues
- Act as a senior escalation point and mentor for Health & Safety Advisors
- Lead specific specialist areas such as fire safety, audit programmes, risk frameworks, contractor safety or systems
- Support the development, review and embedding of health and safety policies, procedures and management systems
- Lead the health and safety audit programme, including planning, quality assurance, reporting and follow-up
- Carry out audits and inspections of higher-risk or complex services
- Lead or support investigations into serious incidents, including RIDDOR-reportable events
- Analyse data and trends to identify risks, inform decision-making and drive improvement
- Contribute to governance reporting, risk logs, thematic reviews and Health & Safety Committee papers
- Support training, campaigns and initiatives that promote a positive safety culture
- Build strong relationships with operational leaders to ensure consistent and effective implementation of health and safety arrangements
About you
We’re looking for someone with strong technical expertise, confidence and the ability to influence at all levels.
Essential requirements:
- NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent), or working towards within an agreed timeframe
- NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate (or equivalent)
- Chartered or Certified IOSH membership (or working towards)
- Significant experience in a health & safety role within a multi-site organisation
- Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
- Proven experience of audits, inspections, incident investigation and compliance monitoring
- Ability to work autonomously, manage priorities and exercise sound professional judgement
- Excellent communication, influencing and written reporting skills
Desirable:
- Lead Auditor qualification (e.g. ISO 45001)
- Specialist qualifications in fire safety, CDM or risk management
- Experience within health and social care or another regulated environment
- Experience leading programmes of work or mentoring others

- Full UK driving licence required
- Ability to travel nationally with occasional overnight stays
