We are seeking an experienced Band 8b Project Manager (Construction) to lead the delivery of complex, high-value capital and estates projects within a live NHS healthcare environment. This is a senior role requiring proven expertise in managing the full construction project lifecycle, from feasibility and business case development through to delivery, handover and post‑project evaluation. The successful candidate will take full responsibility for multi‑million‑pound schemes, leading multidisciplinary teams, managing consultants and contractors, and ensuring strict compliance with NHS standards, CDM regulations, health & safety legislation, governance frameworks and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver complex NHS capital construction projects to time, cost, quality and safety standards
- Manage the end‑to‑end project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, business cases, procurement, construction and handover
- Act as Client Project Manager, overseeing external consultants, designers and contractors
- Ensure full compliance with CDM Regulations, HTMs, HBNs, NHS governance, health & safety and statutory obligations
- Provide strong leadership to multidisciplinary teams and internal stakeholders
- Manage project budgets, risk registers, programme controls and reporting to senior governance groups
- Ensure projects are delivered with minimal disruption to clinical and operational services
- Lead stakeholder engagement with clinicians, estates teams, finance, procurement and external partners
- Support assurance processes, audits and gateway reviews
Essential Requirements
- Substantial experience delivering NHS capital construction projects at a senior level
- Proven delivery of complex, multi‑million‑pound schemes within occupied healthcare environments
- Strong knowledge of construction project management methodologies, CDM, health & safety and NHS governance
- Experience leading and managing consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills
- Ability to work on‑site throughout the working week (remote working only in exceptional circumstances)
- Eligibility for engagement via CCS Framework – Lot 6

- This role is Band 8b (Agenda for Change), dependent on demonstrable NHS experience
- On‑site presence is required throughout the working week
- Procurement and engagement must be via Crown Commercial Service (CCS) Lot 6
