We are currently recruiting for an experienced Multiskilled Commercial Engineer to join a busy facilities maintenance team supporting a portfolio of commercial properties across North London, including schools, children's centres, and other public sector buildings. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer with experience across multiple MEP disciplines to secure a long-term contract within a stable and rewarding environment.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of maintenance, repair, and installation works, including:
- Plumbing, mechanical and/or electrical repairs
- Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
- Reactive maintenance and fault finding
- Asset renewals and replacements
- Statutory testing and compliance checks
- Minor design and installation works where required
- Diagnosing plant and building service failures
- Ensuring all works are completed in accordance with industry standards, regulations, and manufacturer guidelines
You will work across a diverse property portfolio, ensuring that buildings remain safe, compliant, and fully operational with minimal disruption to staff, pupils, and service users.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality reactive and planned maintenance works.
- Diagnose faults and identify cost-effective repair solutions.
- Carry out repairs and maintenance in accordance with SGF20, CIBSE guidance, British Standards, statutory regulations, and safe systems of work.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and O&M manuals.
- Complete accurate records of works undertaken using mobile technology and CAFM systems.
- Coordinate follow-on works where specialist contractors are required.
- Maintain excellent customer service and communication with building users and stakeholders.
- Contribute to long-term asset management and energy efficiency initiatives.
About You
We are looking for a versatile and adaptable engineer with experience across at least two of the following disciplines:
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Plumbing
You will ideally hold a recognised qualification such as:
- NVQ Level 3
- City & Guilds
- Equivalent trade qualification
Essential Experience
- Commercial building maintenance
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Planned and reactive maintenance
- Health & Safety compliance
- Working within occupied buildings
- Strong customer service and communication skills
Desirable Experience
- Experience within schools, education facilities, or public sector environments
- Knowledge of SGF20 maintenance standards
- Experience using CAFM systems and handheld technology
- Understanding of energy-efficient building services
Compliance
Due to the nature of the sites, this position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and successful applicants will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS Check.
