Overview

Housing Needs Officer – Berkshire
Rate: Β£28.42 per hour (umbrella)
Contract: 12 months, ongoing
Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2–3 days per week in office (full days), plus participation in duty rota

We are seeking an experienced Housing Needs Officer to join our Housing team in Berkshire. This is a key frontline role requiring strong knowledge of Part 7 of the Housing Act and proven experience in homelessness decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake full homelessness assessments and issue all statutory homelessness decisions in line with current Part 7 legislation.
  • Draft and maintain high-quality Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs).
  • Manage caseload effectively, ensuring compliance with legal processes and statutory requirements.
  • Provide accurate housing advice and support to applicants.
  • Participate fully in the duty rota.
  • Attend the office 2–3 days per week (full days) to support service delivery.

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience of homelessness legislation (Part 7, Housing Act 1996, as amended).
  • Proven ability to issue legally compliant homelessness decisions.
  • Strong track record in producing excellent standard PHPs.
  • Experience of managing complex housing cases from assessment through to decision making.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and organisational skills.
