McAllister Group, part of Vortex Companies, is seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join our growing delivery team, supporting sewage and drainage infrastructure works across the UK. Our works include new sewer installations, construction of manholes (MH), drainage diversions, and associated civil engineering works, delivered on behalf of water companies and major principal contractors, including experience aligned with high-profile infrastructure projects such as High Speed 2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review project documentation including RAMS, Permits to Work, ITPs, and Temporary Works documentation
  • Support programme development and buildability reviews
  • Coordinate with client representatives, water companies, principal contractors, and design teams
  • Assist with planning and technical preparation prior to site mobilisation
  • Carry out and oversee setting out for drainage and sewer works
  • Manage Site Engineers and supervise operational site teams
  • Oversee groundwork activities, temporary works, and permanent works installation
  • Supervise the construction of manholes and sewer infrastructure
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, QA procedures, and health & safety standards
  • Liaise with Temporary Works Coordinators and subcontractors throughout delivery
  • Maintain quality assurance records and site documentation
  • Prepare as-built drawings and project handover documentation
  • Compile QA packs and support testing and commissioning activities
  • Assist with client inspections, final sign-off, and completion procedures

Qualifications

  • BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering
  • CSCS card relevant to role
  • SMSTS or SSSTS certification preferred
  • Full UK driving licence desirable

Education & Experience

  • Previous experience delivering major infrastructure or civil engineering projects (e.g. HS2)
  • Confined Space training/certification
  • Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) qualification
  • Experience working within drainage, utilities, or water infrastructure environments

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven experience as a Section Engineer (or Senior Site Engineer ready to step up) within sewage, drainage, or utilities infrastructure
  • Strong background in groundwork, temporary works, and permanent works
  • Experience constructing new manholes and sewer systems
  • Competent in setting out
  • Experience managing site engineers and site teams
  • Strong documentation and QA experience (RAMS, ITPs, permits, as-builts)
  • Confident working with water companies and principal contractors
