As the HSQE Manager, you will oversee the execution of health, safety, quality, and environmental programmes across our operations at Vortex Companies. Your role will be pivotal in fostering a safety culture that aligns with our core values at Vortex Companies. You will be responsible for planning, organising, implementing, and managing our HSQE programmes. This position integrates closely with all operational units to ensure the safe and efficient production of high-quality work while adhering to environmental standards.
Location: South of England
Travel Requirement: Regular travel, including frequent visits to various field operations across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- HSQE Strategy and Compliance: Collaborate with the Managing Director and Operations Team to develop and implement strategies that support corporate HSQE goals. Ensure compliance with all relevant UK regulations and standards related to health, safety, quality, and environmental management. Stay updated on changes in UK legislation and best practices in HSQE.
- Site Visits and Safety Monitoring: Conduct regular site visits to monitor activities, conduct welfare checks, and perform safety and quality observations. Provide guidance and support to personnel on HSQE practices and procedures. Document and communicate findings to site and business unit leadership, ensuring timely implementation of corrective actions.
- Equipment and Vehicle Inspections: Perform regular inspections of equipment and vehicles to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- HSQE Training and Development: Work with HR/Fleet/Ops to ensure proper onboarding of new employees, including HSQE training. Ensure all employees receive the necessary training in accordance with Vortex standards, UK regulations, and site-specific requirements. Supervise and coordinate training programmes to foster a proactive HSQE culture. Manage the enrolment of employees in required safety and environmental courses. Coordinate and schedule Respiratory Fit and Physical evaluations as needed. Maintain accurate records of all training activities.
- Project and Client Support: Supply crews with safety-related equipment as required. Provide HSQE support and advice, including the preparation of Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), risk assessments, and permits. Assist Operations in addressing client-specific HSQE needs and issues. Act as a liaison between clients and Vortex on HSQE matters.
- Incident Case Management: Assist in the care for non-life-threatening workplace injuries and manage the response to such incidents. Coordinate Occupational Health Clinic visits and manage return-to-work evaluations. Ensure timely completion of incident reports and assist in post-accident investigations. Recommend corrective actions to HR & Operations to prevent future incidents. Maintain active participation in company HSQE team meetings and regularly attend job sites.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: A combination of relevant work experience, field training, and/or certifications in Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management. Minimum of five years of experience in municipal or industrial construction, with substantial experience in HSQE management at the site level.
- Technical Skills: Competence in Fall Protection, Confined Space, gas detection equipment, respiratory equipment, and general PPE. Proficiency in using HSQE management systems. Familiarity with UK safety and environmental regulations and standards (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH).
- Certifications: Recognised safety and environmental certifications (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely). Understanding of ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environmental), and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety) standards is advantageous.
- IT Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and the internet. Familiarity with HSQE management software is preferred.
