As an Official Veterinarian (OV) specialising in Exports and/or Imports, you’ll play a key role in protecting public health, supporting international trade, and upholding the UK’s global reputation for food safety, animal welfare, and biosecurity.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking veterinarians at all career stages to join our OV Talent Pool for future opportunities in:

  • Export Health Certification (Export OVs)
  • Import Border Control (Portal OVs at Border Control Points)

Whether you’re an experienced OV, an RCVS-registered vet seeking OV certification, or a recent graduate from an RCVS-recognised university with strong English proficiency (IELTS 7.0 / OET grade B), we’d love to hear from you.

Locations: Various UK sites – flexibility available depending on assignment.

Role Overview

As an OV in Exports or Imports, you’ll

  • Certify products for export and verify compliance with international trade and animal health standards.
  • Conduct official checks at UK Border Control Points (BCPs) for imports.
  • Ensure all procedures meet UK legal and FSA/APHA requirements.
  • Uphold standards of animal welfare, biosecurity, and fraud prevention in all activities.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential

  • Veterinary degree (BSc/MSc) and RCVS registration or eligibility.
  • English proficiency – IELTS 7.0 or OET grade B.
  • Strong communication and ethical decision-making skills.
  • Flexible, reliable, and a collaborative team player.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Preferred

  • Qualified Export OV: OCQ(V)–ES, EX, PX certifications.
  • Experience as a Portal OV at a Border Control Post.
  • Knowledge of food industry operations, legislation, and enforcement.
  • Previous experience in abattoirs, meat processing, or export health certification.
