Who are Vorboss: Vorboss is building London’s next-generation business fibre network. This is a responsibility that we take seriously; we understand that for most businesses, reliable fibre internet is as important as heat, electricity, and water. We want to completely change the fibre network in London (and beyond), and we’re on the hunt for smart, talented people to join us. At Vorboss, we do the right thing—no matter what. Our unwavering focus on engineering excellence and unrivalled commitment to customer service is trusted by the most important organisations across the UK and Europe in the technology, pharmaceutical, financial, and e-commerce industries.

We’re proud to have earned one of the best reputations in the industry, and it is essential to us that we maintain that reputation as we grow. Our team is tight knit and highly talented. We trust each other to do the right thing, take responsibility, and be a champion for our collective success. We’re looking for talented, smart people to join us as we embark on this exciting period of growth. Our vision for Vorboss is to be ‘the best job that someone ever had’, regardless of how long they stay with us, and promise to provide a supportive workplace based on respect and trust.

Role overview: We’re looking for an Infrastructure Field Technician to look after the physical layer of our own network and the networks we manage for our customers. The role covers our datacentre points of presence, structured cabling and containment in customer buildings, and the wireless installations we deliver across the sites we support. This is a hands-on, on-site role. You will spend most of your week at our points of presence and on customer premises across London, with the rest of your time in our office. The work varies from one day to the next: racking and cabling equipment in a data hall, installing access points and running copper on a customer fit out, then out to fault find a link that has gone down. You will often be the only Vorboss person on site, so you need to be comfortable working on your own and representing us well in front of customers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Install, commission and decommission racks, cabinets, containment and equipment in our points of presence and on customer sites
  • Run, terminate, test and label copper and fibre structured cabling, and produce test results for handover
  • Install, mount and cable wireless access points to a wireless design, and carry out validation surveys once they are live
  • Fault find at the physical layer across fibre, copper, optics and patching, using OTDRs, power meters, cable certifiers and survey tools
  • Work in live points of presence and customer racks without disrupting services that are already in place
  • Act as remote hands for our engineering teams during troubleshooting, following instructions accurately and feeding back clearly
  • Support planned works, migrations and maintenance, including out of hours where the work needs it
  • Keep our documentation and internal systems accurate and up to date as work is completed
  • Manage stock, spares, tools and site access across our points of presence and customer estates
  • Take part in an on-call rota for responding to outages and other critical events

The right candidate:

  • Two or more years in a hands-on field, infrastructure or datacentre role
  • Experience working in data centres, for example Telehouse, Equinix, Digital Realty sites
  • Confident terminating and testing copper, including patch panels and keystones
  • Willing to learn fibre splicing and testing for the occasions where it is needed
  • Practical knowledge of structured cabling standards and good installation practice in comms rooms and data halls
  • Experience installing wireless access points and working from a wireless design or heat map
  • Able to prove a connection works using the relevant test equipment
  • Keen attention to detail: tidy cable management, spotting mistakes as you go, and working in live customer racks without knocking out services that are already running
  • Comfortable working alone on customer sites, and confident dealing with customers, landlords and data centre staff face to face
  • Happy to work at height, in risers and plant rooms, and to lift and manoeuvre equipment
  • Full UK driving licence, and comfortable driving a company van around London
  • Well organised, with the discipline to document work properly as you go
  • Fibre splicing and OTDR testing experience
  • Wireless survey experience using Ekahau, Hamina or similar
  • Familiarity with enterprise wireless platforms such as Ruckus or Juniper Mist
  • Willing to build up more advanced wireless and IP networking theory so you can troubleshoot in more detail while on site
  • Manufacturer certification in structured cabling, for example Excel, Panduit or CommScope
  • CSCS card, IPAF or PASMA, working at height or first aid training
  • Experience with documentation or DCIM tooling such as NetBox

We believe in taking care of our staff both mentally and physically and in order to support this we offer a range of benefits that you can access.

  • Employee Share Plan
  • Company pension scheme
  • 25 days of annual leave allowance that increases with years served (excluding bank holidays)
  • Access to Spill, our mental health support partner
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Half price gym memberships through the healthcare provider
  • Free eye test
  • Hastee app, to help manage your salary and finances
