Role description: Manager

Are you an experienced social care professional who believes that great support should enable people with a learning disability to live the life they choose? You may be already managing a service or team and looking for an organisation where values genuinely influence the way things are done. Or you may be an experienced senior or lead support worker who's ready to take the next step into management.

New Prospects is a growing, local not-for-profit organisation that has been supporting people with a learning disability for more than 30 years. They support people to live the lives they choose, whether they need support 24 hours a day or just a little each week. They are well established and connected across the North East, while retaining the personal, values‑led approach that has shaped the organisation over the years.

The role: As a Support Manager, you'll lead a number of small staff teams supporting people in their own homes across North Tyneside and Newcastle. You'll get to know the people New Prospects supports properly, as well as their families, staff teams and other professionals. You'll make sure support is safe, well organised and consistently high quality – but just as importantly, genuinely built around the individual rather than the needs of the service. This is a hands‑on management role. You'll coach and support staff, lead by example, solve problems and keep an eye on quality and compliance. You'll need the confidence to challenge when something isn't right and be prepared to step in when things get difficult.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Staff supervision and development
  • Safeguarding
  • Support planning and risk management
  • Rotas and staffing
  • Quality assurance
  • Relationships with families and professionals

At the heart of all of this is helping people have greater choice, control, relationships, opportunities and involvement in their communities.

Who are we looking for? We're looking for somebody who understands good social care and knows how much difference good leadership can make. You might already be a manager, or you could be an experienced senior, lead support worker or team leader ready for your next step. What's important is that you have experience of supporting people with a learning disability or other support needs and can demonstrate your ability to lead, motivate and develop others. You'll be organised, calm under pressure and able to build positive relationships, while having the confidence to challenge practice when something isn't right. You'll also have a Level 3 or above qualification in Health and Social Care, or a relevant professional qualification such as Social Work, Youth Work or Nursing. Most importantly, your values will fit with New Prospects. You'll be thoughtful, open, curious and kind, with high expectations of what is possible for the people you support and the teams you lead.

Why New Prospects? You'll join a supportive and growing organisation where people know each other, good ideas can actually go somewhere and staff are encouraged to learn and develop. Progression isn't just something New Prospects puts in a recruitment advert. Their current CEO began as a Project Worker, their Head of Finance and Admin started as a Clerk, and three of their four Service Managers originally joined as Support Workers.

Benefits Include:

  • £37,193 salary, plus additional on‑call payments
  • 28 days' annual leave, rising to 33 days, plus 8 Bank Holidays
  • Pension scheme and Employee Assistance Scheme
  • Training, development and genuine opportunities to progress
  • Flexible working arrangements

The role is based from Whitley Bay, working across North Tyneside and Newcastle. It's a 39‐hour week, usually Monday to Friday, although some evening and weekend flexibility is required. The role also participates in an on‑call rota.
