About The Role
We're looking for a compassionate and motivated Assessment and Engagement Coordinator to join STARS, supporting people affected by drug and alcohol use across South Tyneside. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference from the very first point of contact. You'll complete comprehensive assessments, build trusting relationships, and work alongside individuals to develop personalised recovery plans that empower them to make positive, lasting changes. Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you'll help people access the right interventions, treatment and wider wellbeing support while promoting hope, resilience and long-term recovery. No two days are the same. You'll work with people facing a range of complex needs, collaborating with colleagues, partner agencies and family members where appropriate to ensure every person receives coordinated, person-centred support.
What You'll Be Doing
- Complete comprehensive assessments and develop tailored recovery plans.
- Manage a caseload of individuals throughout their recovery journey.
- Deliver evidence-based psychosocial interventions on both a one-to-one and group basis.
- Work collaboratively with Recovery Coordinators and partner organisations to ensure seamless support.
- Promote harm reduction, health improvement and wellbeing initiatives.
- Identify and manage safeguarding concerns and risks appropriately.
- Maintain accurate case records and contribute to positive service outcomes.
- Encourage people to build on their strengths, increase their recovery capital and achieve sustainable recovery.
About You
We're looking for someone who is passionate about helping people make positive changes. You’ll ideally have experience supporting people with complex needs and be confident managing competing priorities while building positive professional relationships.
You’ll Also Have
- Experience carrying out assessments and developing recovery or support plans.
- Experience delivering one-to-one and group interventions.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- An understanding of safeguarding, risk management and person-centred practice.
- The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- An NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), or a willingness to work towards this qualification.
- Knowledge or experience of substance misuse services would be advantageous, although we also welcome applications from people with transferable skills and relevant experience from other sectors.
