Through this apprenticeship you will train as an Apprentice Toolmaker, undertaking a structured training programme that blends academic study and practical workshop experience.

Responsibilities and Training:
  • Setting and operating conventional centre lathes
  • Milling and grinding
  • Operating E. D. M
  • Basic fitting techniques
  • Benchwork and associated techniques
  • Checking and inspecting tools made in-house and externally
  • Interpreting in-house and customer-supplied engineering drawings
Qualifications and Development:
  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence)

The first year of training will be held at the MGTS centre in Redditch. After the first year, your working hours will be Monday–Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, and Friday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, including a 15-minute breakfast break and a 30-minute lunch break each day. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will progress into a full-time employed position within the business. Further training and development opportunities will be available to successful candidates.
