This is a full-time, on-site Master Technician role based at Volvo Cars Shrewsbury. The Master Technician will perform advanced diagnostics, fault finding, and mechanical and electrical repairs on Volvo vehicles using manufacturer-approved tools, equipment, and software. Responsibilities include carrying out scheduled servicing, pre-delivery inspections, warranty work, and complex repairs in line with Volvo technical standards and safety procedures. The role involves mentoring and supporting other technicians, sharing technical expertise, and helping to maintain a high standard of workshop quality and efficiency. The Master Technician will also complete accurate job cards and documentation, communicate clearly with service advisors, and occasionally interact with customers to explain repairs and vehicle status.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience as an automotive technician, ideally at Master Technician or senior diagnostic level within a franchised dealership environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, including experience with OEM diagnostic tools, fault-finding processes, and electrical/electronic systems.
  • Proficiency in performing routine servicing, mechanical repairs, and complex repairs on modern vehicles, including hybrid or electric systems (preferred).
  • Current, relevant industry qualifications (e.g., NVQ/IMI Level 3 or equivalent in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair); brand-specific or Volvo accreditation is a strong advantage.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety practices in a workshop, including safe use of tools, equipment, and lifting systems.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and support junior and apprentice technicians, helping to build skills and maintain consistent quality standards.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for clear job documentation and effective collaboration with service and parts teams.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage workload to meet deadlines and productivity targets.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record; comfortable test-driving vehicles as part of diagnostics and quality checks.
