To contribute to the success of the Volution UK Group Technical Team as a Design Engineer by developing innovative and effective product design solutions, from initial concept through to production. The role involves:
- Generating detailed CAD models using Autodesk Inventor.
- Creating and managing 2D engineering drawings.
- Applying analysis techniques such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
- Supporting various engineering and project-related activities to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant products.
- Developing inventive, innovative, manageable and cost-effective solutions to product development briefs.
- Designing ventilation equipment i.e. fans and heat recovery products, through the creation of 3D CAD models using Autodesk Inventor.
- Designing plastic injection moulded parts, some with complex curved shapes, and sheet metal components using the Inventor sheet metal environment.
- Building parts into assemblies, some complex, comprising of hundreds of components and many subassemblies.
- Designing other components for the assemblies using a wide range of engineering materials, forming techniques and fastening methods, including EPS, EPP, vacuum formed plastic, insulation foam, and the design of air-tight seals.
- Modelling cable runs in assemblies using the Inventor cable and harness environment.
- Creating 2D part and assembly drawings to BS8888 based on the 3D designs.
- Monitoring output to ensure quality of design within a project team.
- Creating and working with additional data and documentation as required, including use of an MRP database and Task/Time management systems.
- Carrying out FEA and CFD analysis and managing any sub-contracted work.
- Possessing the practical skills required when creating prototypes for concept validation and development testing.
- Delivering projects within time, cost and performance expectations.
Skills, Knowledge & Personal Qualities:
- Minimum 5 years CAD experience with Autodesk Inventor or similar software.
- Experience of designing domestic or commercial appliances, including both plastic and sheet metal components.
- Experience of FEA and CFD software would be beneficial.
- Experienced in Drawing Management processes and Data Management systems.
- Willingness to travel to customers and suppliers as required, including internationally on occasion.
