Salvation Army Family Store Volunteer – Cambridge
Volunteer with Us – Cambridge Family Store
We’re looking for locals to join the team at the Salvation Army Family Store in Cambridge — people who are happy to roll up their sleeves, have a laugh, and help keep things ticking along.
The shop’s a lively little hub where people come in for affordable finds and a friendly face. Whether you\’re sorting donations out the back or helping on the shop floor, there’s always something to do—and always someone to do it with.
Some of the things you\’ll be helping with are:
- Going through donated clothes, shoes, and bits and bobs
- Helping people find what they’re after (or just having a friendly yarn)
- Jumping on the till to ring up sales (we’ll show you how it works)
- Giving the shop a quick tidy—vacuum here, dust there
- Being part of a team that works hard, has fun, and looks out for each other
No retail experience? No worries—we’ll teach you everything you need to know.
And if, after you’ve been with us for a while, you’re keen to upskill or add something solid to your CV, we can support you to work toward a retail certificate—paid for by us.
If you’re from around Cambridge and looking for something steady and social, pop or if you’re curious, pop in for a cuppa and a chat. We’d love to have a chat. Most of all, we want you to enjoy it. No pressure—just come see what we’re about.
Requirements:
- Are 18 or over
- You\’re reliable, trustworthy, and happy to stick with it
- Don’t mind mucking in wherever needed—whether it’s front of shop, out the back, or a bit of both
- Can have a good yarn and treat all our customers with a friendly smile—our customers come from all sorts of backgrounds
- Bring your own skills and experiences—there’s a spot for everyone, and we’ll match you up with tasks you enjoy and are good at
- If you’re into merchandising or have a knack for making things look nice, we’d love to put that to good use
- Enjoy working with a good bunch of people who’ll have your back
- Don’t mind sorting, tidying, and keeping things shipshape
- Are keen to learn new stuff (we’ll show you the ropes)
- Have a full NZ driver’s licence (if you\’re open to opportunities starting as assistant driver, with chances to do deliveries and pick-ups later on)
A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.
Time commitment:
- We ask for a minimum of about 6 months, but how much time you give is up to you.
- Shifts usually run around 3 to 4 hours, and you can do as little as once a week or even once a month—whatever fits your schedule.
- We’ll sort out shift times when we have a chat at your interview, so it works for you.
- If you stick with us for 6 months or more and show up reliably, we’re happy to provide a reference to help you out with whatever’s next.
