The St John Health Shuttle is a lifeline for many in our community, offering a free transport service to help people attend essential medical and health-related appointments. With over 65,000 trips made each year, this service is invaluable for older adults, individuals who are too unwell to drive, and those who don’t have access to other transport options.
As a volunteer Shuttle Driver, you will play a vital role in ensuring clients get to their appointments safely and on time. This is a customer-focused role where your care and empathy can make a real difference.
Key Responsibilities- Safely drive the St John Shuttle vehicle to transport clients to and from appointments.
- Provide a welcoming, supportive service for all passengers.
- Assist clients as needed, from offering a helping hand to those who are mobile to physically supporting those who require additional help.
- Empathy and sensitivity - You’ll be working with people who may be unwell or facing challenges.
- Physical fitness - Some clients may need assistance getting in and out of the shuttle, so being fit and able to help is important.
- Reliability and punctuality - Ensuring clients arrive at their appointments on time is a key part of the role.

Requirements:- No Prior Experience Needed – But You’ll Need to Have:
- A full, clean NZ Driver’s Licence held for at least 12 months (vehicles may be manual).
- A clean police record.
- Availability to commit to one shift per week or fortnight.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- A friendly, caring, and compassionate nature, with a genuine interest in people’s well-being.
- Cultural awareness and the ability to engage with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Physical fitness to assist clients safely and manage the demands of the role.
- A Police background check is required for this role.
- One full day each week OR One full day every fortnight.
