Te Whare Awhero/Hornby Presbyterian Community Trust managed by Volunteering Canterbury is working with 2 local schools to support children develop and gain new opportunities in the following areas:
- Development of veggie gardens in schools
- Supporting an in-school Construction Club (woodwork) - no experience necessary, training provided.
- Volunteers to support Reading Support in schools, e.g. commit to reading with a child once a week.
- Supporting an experienced Drama artist who runs a weekly school Drama Club.
- If you have a hobby you may wish to share with children, e.g. art, coding, sports, etc., please bring your ideas to Ingrid; everything is worth a discussion.
Our community projects require volunteers for the following:
- Knowledgeable volunteer to support an adult fortnightly community vegetable group, run in Hornby.
- When needed, we provide working bees for our Whānau Support families for garden clean-ups. If you would like to be included on the list of volunteers willing to be called on for this role, please get in touch; these happen as and when required, but not all that frequently.
- Van drivers to join a roster that picks up and drops off students to support school attendance.
