RecreateNZ managed by Volunteering Canterbury Overview This group is led by a Recreate NZ facilitator. Your role is to encourage participation, provide support, and be a positive role model for young people as they develop healthy life skills throughout the course. The group will get out into the community and learn about Hauora, a model of wellbeing, and try different low‑impact activities each week such as walking, dancing, and yoga. Participants will be encouraged to think about ways to move, look after their body, and make healthy life choices. You will be supporting a group of 5 young people with intellectual disabilities to learn valuable life skills through an 8‑week educational course called “Hauora On the Move.”
Responsibilities
- Encourage participation and support young people during low‑impact activities.
- Act as a positive role model and foster healthy life skills.
- Assist participants in learning and applying concepts of Hauora.
- Travel with the group to activity locations and help with logistics.
Qualifications
- Punctuality and enthusiasm.
- No prior experience required.
- Need to be able to meet at the youth space in Papanui at 9 am and drive a van to activity locations.
