Lagan Valley Regional Park (LVRP) Heritage Guides welcome visitors to the Lock Keeper's Cottage and the Industry Barge, telling their stories and history, and keeping the memory of the Lagan Navigation alive. The quaint little Lock Keeper's Cottage, at Lock 3 near Shaw’s Bridge, sits at the heart of Lagan Valley Regional Park (LVRP) – a park which offers a thriving, diverse and valued riverside heritage that welcomes exploration, learning and enjoyment whilst ensuring a sustainable environment for all.
By joining our team, you'll be learning about our local history and heritage, contributing to keeping it alive and relevant to all ages of visitors – bringing this beautiful little cottage on the Lagan to life, stirring wonder in our younger visitors and memories among the older generations. You'll be volunteering in a vibrant yet peaceful spot surrounded by the beauty of the Regional Park, and have many interesting conversations by the fire with our visitors from near and far.
Skills needed:
- No specialist knowledge required as all training will be provided – though any specialist knowledge will be welcomed!
- Willingness to develop knowledge of heritage and local history
- Flexibility for initial training – which will be outside of usual shift time
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Welcoming visitors to the Cottage
- Telling the story of the Lock Keeper's Cottage and Lock 3
- Providing the public with information about LVRP
- Tending fire and light cleaning duties
