Belfast City Council, through the Belfast Tree Strategy, works to look after and grow the city’s urban forest. Volunteering is key to delivering this strategy by involving communities, building skills, and ensuring long‑term tree care.
Become a Tree Volunteer
We’re inviting local groups, schools, businesses and individuals to get hands‑on with planting and caring for trees in their communities.
Tree Volunteers can:
- Help plant and care for young trees
- Act as local “eyes and ears” for trees in their neighbourhood
- Get involved in community planting days and events
- Learn new skills through training and workshops
- Monitor tree health and report issues to Woodland Officers
- Help develop community tree nurseries to propagate native trees
- Meet like‑minded people and carry out meaningful environmental work
We can help with:
- Free or subsidised trees
- Training and guidance
- Ongoing support
- Links to local partners and projects
- Time commitment – this is ad‑hoc, based on your availability
