Overview
Older People’s Charity – Community Cohesion Worker
Burmantofts Community Friends
Would you like to join a charity committed to making life better for older people?
Who are BCF? We are a local, ground-level charity helping to improve the lives of older age people living in and around the LS9 area of East Leeds. We achieve this by providing practical support through activities, information, advocacy, outreach, and wellbeing services. BCF aims to increase confidence, promote positive life choices and self-care, while reducing social isolation. We work with local people, volunteers, councillors, professional/support services, and more. We are a fun and informal team, working hard to assist people and improve lives, always aiming to enjoy our work. For more information, please visit our website: http://www.burmantofts.org.uk/
Main Purpose of The Role: Working under the direction of the CEO, and in partnership with 3rd sector partners, community groups and residents of LS9, you will run and grow fun and interactive groups and sessions, encouraging and empower people to attend. These will include groups such as a Men’s Group, Gardening, Cinema Club, and more. All our groups are based on the different and diverse needs of Burmantofts. Whatever the community wants, we will support, always aiming to improve people’s general wellbeing and the local area. Gradually, you will build these groups to independence and be supportive from a distance.
Duties will involve meeting and engaging with people in the community, working with local councillors and groups, and contacting them via phone calls and in-person meetings. This may include providing practical support, such as hosting events, running groups, booking venues, creating plans, producing budgets, and purchasing items. The post holder will work closely with our wider team, ensuring we create a positive work environment and culture, and strive for success at all times.
The post holder will also provide ad-hoc support as necessary to the CEO and Trustees. Management Trustees expect BCF team members to actively promote the aims of the charity at all opportunities and represent BCF as a positive force for change in the local community.
