Battle Scars is a national, 100% survivor‑led charity supporting people affected by self-harm — defined as "any harm we cause to our body or mind". Based in Leeds and operating nationally, we provide face‑to‑face, virtual, online and phone support without assessments or time limits. Our organisation is unique because everyone involved has lived or living experience, and all services operate on peer‑support principles.
We are recruiting a Volunteer Coordinator to support, develop and strengthen our volunteer workforce across Battle Scars services. Reporting to the Director of Peer Support Services, this role plays a central part in ensuring volunteers feel supported, confident and equipped to deliver high‑quality peer support. The successful candidate will directly influence volunteer engagement, service consistency and the overall effectiveness of our peer‑support model.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate the induction, onboarding and ongoing development of volunteers
- Deliver training and conduct regular 1:1s with volunteers
- Ensure sufficient volunteer cover across services, managing last‑minute changes when needed
- Support group facilitators to plan and deliver topics within peer support groups
- Gather volunteer feedback and case studies for reports and communications
- Build relationships with external organisations and represent Battle Scars at events
- Provide reception cover and assist with day‑to‑day hub operations
Requirements
- Lived or living experience of self-harm
- Experience working with adults at risk
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a varied workload
- Good communication skills and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to maintain accurate records and monitoring information
- Compassionate, person‑centred and able to work in a charged or potentially triggering environment
- Flexible and able to respond to last‑minute changes
- DBS: Required
