Would you like to join a charity committed to making life better for older people?

Who are Burmantofts Community Friends? BCF is a local, community-based charity working at ground level to improve the lives of older people living in and around the LS9 area of East Leeds. We provide practical support through a wide range of activities, information, advocacy, outreach, and wellbeing services. Our work aims to build confidence, encourage positive life choices and self-care, and reduce social isolation. We work closely with local residents, volunteers, councillors, and professional/support services to ensure our work reflects the real needs of the community. BCF is a fun, informal team that works hard to support people and improve lives — and we believe enjoying what we do is an important part of how we do it.

Main Purpose of the Role: The Deputy Manager supports the overall management of the charity and delivery of services that improve the wellbeing, independence, and quality of life of older people. The role works closely with the CEO to ensure high-quality social opportunities and outreach support are planned, delivered, and continually improved in line with the charity’s values and objectives. The role helps to coordinate day-to-day operations, supports staff management and manages our volunteering strategy, ensuring services are safe, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of older people. A key focus of the role is reducing social isolation, promoting confidence, independence, and enabling older people to remain active and connected within their community. In the CEO’s absence, the Deputy Manager will take responsibility for service coordination, decision‑making, and staff support, helping ensure continuity of service and high standards. Alongside operational functions such as marketing, finance management and more.

All BCF team members are expected to actively promote the charity’s aims and values whenever appropriate, and to represent Burmantofts Community Friends as a positive, trusted force for change within the local community.
