Castle Point Social Car Scheme Ltd is a registered charity based at the Tyrell's, Seamore Ave, Benfleet, providing transport for the elderly and disabled residents of Castle Point, giving them independence to travel in and out of the area. The scheme offers a special service to the more vulnerable members of the community.
The car scheme is operated with voluntary drivers who use their own cars to take clients out into the community for appointments or social meetings, such as visiting friends, shopping, etc. A separate bus service provides transport for the elderly and disabled to clubs and social events. There are also 2 Mobility Cars that are wheelchair accessible, providing transport for clients who cannot access a normal car.
Castle Point Social Car Scheme gained National Lottery Funding in 2011 for 5 years and in 2016 was successful in obtaining a further 5 years funding from the National Lottery. Due to the continued success of the scheme, Castle Point Social Car Scheme is looking for voluntary mini bus, mobility car, and owner car drivers to join their team to help provide this invaluable service to those in the Castle Point community.
As these are voluntary positions, working times would be based around what you are able to offer.
Skills- Knowledge of the Castle Point area would be an advantage.
- Mini Bus drivers must have a D1 on their licence or have passed a test before 1997.
- Drivers for minibus and mobility vehicles need to be 25 years old or over.
- Good understanding of written and verbal English language.
- Good knowledge of basic addition and subtraction.
Expenses reimbursed; mileage is payable for customer journeys. Health and Safety Policy. Ongoing support. Training provided. Volunteers covered by insurance if using company vehicle.
