Volunteer Action is a local charity serving residents in Oundle, Thrapston, and nearby villages in North East Northamptonshire. The organization supports community members who may be elderly, unwell, disadvantaged, or living with disabilities. Its services focus on helping people maintain independence and improve their quality of life. Volunteer Action runs a community car scheme to support essential trips and appointments, as well as a befriending service to reduce isolation and promote social connection.

Role Description

The Operations & Volunteer Support Lead is a part-time, on-site role based in Oundle. This position oversees the day-to-day coordination of Volunteer Action’s services, including scheduling and managing the community car scheme and supporting the befriending service. The role includes providing support and guidance to volunteers, maintaining accurate records and databases, and ensuring clear communication between volunteers, service users, and partner organizations. The Lead will help improve processes, handle routine inquiries, assist with basic reporting and monitoring, and contribute to the smooth running of the charity’s office and operations.

Qualifications

• Experience in operations or service coordination, including scheduling, record-keeping, and process improvement.
• Demonstrated ability to support and engage volunteers or teams, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
• Good organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Confident communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to interact respectfully with diverse community members.
• Competence with basic office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, databases) and willingness to learn new systems.
• Commitment to equality, inclusion, and safeguarding, and an understanding of working with potentially vulnerable adults.
• Prior experience in a charity, community, or social care setting is beneficial but not essential.
• Ability to work on-site in Oundle during agreed part-time hours and to collaborate effectively with a small team.
