We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our Property and Maintenance Team as a Maintenance Assistant based in Aberdeen. This will be a full-time permanent position and, in return, you will receive a competitive salary and benefits.

  • Hours: 39 hours per week
  • Work Pattern: Monday to Friday (8.00am - 4.30pm, with an early finish on a Friday)
  • Rate/Salary: £12.60 per hour or £24,336.00 per annum
  • Location: Aberdeen City, primarily at Broomhill Park Service; role will cover other VSA properties

Additional info: Applicants must hold a valid UK Drivers Licence as you will work across multiple sites. About the role

To provide a routine and proactive maintenance service at all VSA establishments and associated grounds, carrying out domestic repairs and maintenance work as required or identified.

Responsibilities of our Maintenance Assistant

  • Be proactive in identifying potential maintenance issues and dealing with them appropriately.
  • Establish, agree and implement a routine to carry out daily, weekly and monthly tasks in consultation with the Head of Business, Property Inspector and Asset & Facilities Manager.
  • Identify maintenance issues that are outside own skills and knowledge and refer them to the Head of Business, Property Inspector or Asset & Facilities Manager for action.
  • Liaise with Head of Business to identify and act upon any maintenance issues that may arise.
  • Use own initiative to identify the most cost-effective and appropriate solution to maintenance issues and report these to the Clerk of Works.
  • Carry out routine domestic maintenance and repair work involving a wide range of DIY skills.
  • Maintain site grounds (footpaths, gutters, blocked drains, etc.) and assist with the maintenance of the gardens.
  • Ensure Health and Safety standards are rigorously met by all while undertaking maintenance and repair work.
  • Any other duties that may arise from time to time provided they are within the post holder's capabilities.
  • Provide a call-out service for emergency repairs as and when available.

What we are looking for in our Maintenance Assistant

Experience: A good working knowledge of general property maintenance and DIY tasks. Knowledge of Health and Safety.

Key Skills/Aptitudes: Ability to work well on own initiative, communicate well with others, quality workmanship, planning and prioritising work, proactive approach, organisational skills.

Personal Qualities: Flexibility, uses initiative, self-motivated, reliable and punctual, innovative – problem solver.

Other Job Requirements: This role will involve a high degree of physically demanding work, including manual handling on a day-to-day basis, which will sometimes include moving heavy furniture and equipment, bending and lifting.
