As a community connector, you will be making links with your local community to raise awareness of stroke and the Stroke Association. By speaking to people in your local community, you can help people understand the effects of stroke on lives and help to improve the experience of those affected by stroke.
What you may be doing:
- Work with staff in the local area to represent the Stroke Association at events, such as giving a presentation or talk, hosting a stand or attending a fundraising event.
- Share your own experience of stroke to inspire and help others.

Training for this role:
Being a Community Connector means increasing your knowledge and awareness of stroke, its effects and the challenges that people face after stroke. You will have access to Learn, our learning management system where you can take part in both e‑learning and instructor‑led courses to support your role. Mandatory training includes GDPR, basic health and safety, lone working and safeguarding. There are also non‑mandatory training packages on other stroke‑related topics that you might be interested in or that feel relevant to your role.
Experience required:
- Passionate about helping people learn more about stroke.
- Able to get out and about.
- Comfortable using technology like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
- Enjoy interacting with people.
- Experience in a caring role or having had a stroke is welcomed.
Travel requirements:
Must be able to travel independently. Travel expenses will be re‑imbursed.
Support:
Full induction and ongoing training will be provided for this role.
Restrictions:
Minimum age: 18. Applicants must be aged 18 years and over.

Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun Morning, Afternoon, Evening
Frequency & commitment:
Days and times to be agreed. Volunteers (aged 18‑25) taking part in this opportunity are eligible to claim Saltire Awards hours for their activity.
