Performance musicians required for NHS Lothian Charity

Volunteers required to deliver high quality musical performances to patients (usually in ward settings) to provide stimulation, distraction and boost mood to aid wellbeing and recovery.

  • To play acoustic instrument e.g. guitar or violin.
  • Compile set list and engage in conversation with patients.
  • Provide brief summary of performance to the Tonic Arts Team.

Experience required

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • A high level of competence with an acoustic instrument e.g. violin, guitar.
  • A commitment to delivering high standards of performance.
  • Confidence to commence performance with limited introduction.
  • Ability to work independently within set boundaries.
  • Flexibility to perform in a non-traditional setting and adapt set list at short notice if needed based on patient feedback.
  • Adhere to all health and safety and fire regulations and to co-operate with the NHS in maintaining good standards of health and safety.
  • Commitment to demonstrating NHS Lothian Values and behaviours.
  • Commitment to upholding confidentiality.

Travel expenses

Support

Training will be given on all aspects of the role, except musical training.

Day to day support will be provided to you by the ward or department your volunteering is based within. Ongoing training and support will be provided to you by the Voluntary Services Team and NHS Lothians Charity Tonic Arts Team.

Frequency & commitment

Weekly, timings to be finalised but looking at 10am – 12noon and 2-4pm.
