The Director will provide visible, values-led leadership during a period of renewal and change. They will:

  • Lead the development and implementation of a clear, evidence-led vision for the Centre’s future service model.
  • Uphold the Centre’s Catholic identity and ethos of welcome, dignity and hope while ensuring full inclusion for people of all faiths and none.
  • Deliver high-quality, trauma-informed services for adults experiencing poor mental health, homelessness, isolation, disability and other vulnerabilities.
  • Strengthen governance, safeguarding, partnerships, financial sustainability and organisational culture.
  • Represent the Centre with credibility across the city and Diocese, building trust and collaborative relationships.

Key responsibilities

A. Strategic leadership and vision

  • Lead the development and delivery of a renewed service model informed by community needs and Catholic social teaching.
  • Translate strategy into clear operational plans, measurable outcomes and meaningful impact reporting.
  • Provide regular strategic advice and reports to Trustees and Caritas Hallam.
  • Support the Centre’s evolution towards an integrated community hub / community-inclusion model that balances crisis support and long-term development.

B. Service delivery and quality

  • Oversee all services, ensuring they remain trauma-informed, person-centred and inclusive.
  • Ensure accessibility and responsiveness for people at risk of poor mental health, homelessness, social exclusion, disability and severe disadvantage.
  • Lead development of new programmes (e.g. ESOL, skills, wellbeing, community learning) in partnership with local organisations and funders.
  • Embed systems for impact measurement, evaluation and learning.

C. Leadership, management and organisational culture

  • Provide compassionate and accountable leadership to staff and volunteers.
  • Implement an effective staffing structure with clear roles, responsibilities and spans of control.
  • Ensure high-quality supervision, appraisal, performance management and professional development.
  • Foster an organisational culture of welcome, dignity, inclusion and whole-centre collaboration.

D. Governance, safeguarding and compliance

  • Act as Designated Safeguarding Lead or ensure appropriate arrangements with trained deputies.
  • Ensure robust systems for safeguarding, risk management, health & safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide Trustees with accurate, timely information on performance, risk, safeguarding and finance.
  • Support effective governance structures in collaboration with the Diocese and Caritas Hallam.

E. Finance, fundraising and resources

  • Work with finance colleagues to manage budgets, ensuring sustainability and accountability.
  • Lead the development of a financial sustainability plan, including diversified income generation.
  • Work with Caritas Hallam colleagues to support fundraising, communications and engagement.
  • Oversee effective use of buildings and assets, including estates planning.

F. Partnerships and external relations

  • Build strong relationships with Sheffield City Council, health partners, universities and VCSEF organisations.
  • Represent the Centre in strategic forums across Sheffield and the Diocese.
  • Promote the Centre’s work through advocacy, media, communications and partnership-building.

G. Catholic ethos and values

  • There is no requirement to be Catholic; however, the Director must be committed to upholding the Centre’s Catholic identity and social mission, ensuring Gospel values of justice, compassion and human dignity shape the work.
  • Ensure the Centre remains fully welcoming to people of all faiths and none.
  • Work with parishes, clergy and diocesan partners to develop volunteering, outreach and support.
