We empower groups and individuals to find their voice and take leadership roles, to influence and inform a more inclusive society, through targeted and deeply personalised education and confidence building based projects.

We are excited to recruit for our new Financial Advice Caseworker who will make a meaningful difference to increasing household incomes across the Firvale area. The postholder will work as a member of our Advice Work team and contribute to the development of the advice service. You will focus on working over a period of time with clients to provide coaching on budgeting skills together with training in money management and shopping on a budget.

The post is funded by Aviva plc as part of our new partnership action plan. There is therefore an element of the work which will require the postholder to provide reports to Aviva plc.

The person we are looking for is passionate about supporting people and committed to find solutions at the practical and policy levels. You will be an experienced advice worker and advocate with a strong knowledge of welfare rights and legal issues. Previous experience of dealing with clients from a range of heritages is an important skill that you will possess.

To support Sheffield residents to develop and implement better financial management techniques.

Hours/Pay/Terms:

The post is 10 hours per week at a gross annual salary of £8,384 (equivalent to a full-time salary of £29,344 pa.

The contract will be for three years subject to a probationary period of 3 months.

Our operating hours are within 9am-5.30pm Monday to Thursday with occasional evening and weekend work. The specific times to be worked will be agreed by negotiation with the successful candidate.

The postholder will have free use of our wellbeing suite and access to our employee pension scheme.

The postholder will be based at Firvale Community Hub, 127 Page Hall Road, Sheffield, S4 8GU. This will be the primary location of work, with regular travel across Sheffield being routinely required.

Job Description:

Role specific duties

  • Undertake casework with individuals and families needing in-depth financial advice.
  • Work with individual clients to make an assessment and to develop an action plan to improve their financial position, assemble a package of support and follow up the action plan at regular intervals.
  • Advocate to creditors.
  • Provide coaching sessions and group training opportunities as appropriate to improve financial resilience
  • Support clients with any underlying issues which are likely to lead to repeating crises, notably ensuring that they receive appropriate wrap around support.
  • Refer people onto other agencies.
  • Undertake outreach work to raise awareness of the post.
  • Undertake research to ensure advice provided is adequately referenced.
  • Develop case studies for partners to illuminate the work of the project.
  • Ensure that all clients are aware that the post is sponsored by Aviva plc.
  • Record case notes using CRM database efficiently and effectively.

Generic duties of all staff

  • Attend and contribute to support and supervision and appraisal meetings with the line manager, to further own development.
  • Develop appropriate promotional materials including social media content.
  • Identify potential partners to engage with the project.
  • Assist with conducting research and sharing best practice with partners.
  • Assist in the completion of business cases and funding applications for continuation and extension funding.
  • Provide quarterly internal evaluation and monitoring reports.
  • Undertake essential training and seek opportunities for personal development.
  • Remain informed of new and changing legislation and of local issues and policies.
  • Report any safeguarding concerns to keep people safe from harm.
  • Collect relevant data about engagement activity and individuals’ outcomes to feed into monitoring reports and produce evaluation materials.
  • Ensure that all, ethical, statutory and contractual obligations are discharged, notably maintaining a safe working environment, ensuring confidentiality, securing data and treating people equitably with consideration and respect.
  • Any other related tasks consistent with the purpose of the post, as required by the line manager.
