Royal Voluntary Service has an opportunity available for a Communications & Social Media Officer to join our Communications Team, working from home. This is a full-time, permanent role with a salary range of £26,749 to £30,570 per annum, depending on experience.

About the Communications & Social Media Officer role:

Royal Voluntary Service has developed a game-changing new digital platform, GoVo, to boost volunteering in Britain with £5 million funding from the Postcode Lottery. GoVo aims to address the volunteer shortage facing charities in the UK and was launched in Autumn 2025 to remove barriers to volunteering, making it easier for people to give their time and for organisations to recruit and retain support.

What you’ll bring to the Communications & Social Media Officer role:

  • A BA or equivalent qualification or demonstrable experience is required
  • Awareness of trends in social media platforms and digital content formats.
  • At least two years’ experience working in a digital communications role
  • Experience writing effective copy with the ability to communicate on a range of subjects
  • Experience using an email marketing or CRM platform (e.g. HubSpot, Dotdigital, Mailchimp or similar)
  • Experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & TikTok), including creating content calendars and community engagement
  • Experience working within a team environment and collaborating with cross-functional departments
  • Confident writing at pace in multiple styles to engage various channels while maintaining the RVS tone of voice and driving action
  • Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proficiency in digital tools, including CMS, social media management platforms, and Google Analytics
  • Ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines to a high standard
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities
  • Time management skills and capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Basic graphic design skills using tools like Adobe Creative Suite or Canva (preferred)
  • Calm under pressure with a friendly and approachable manner
  • Creative skills to generate imagery, video and audio content on Photoshop and video editing platforms (e.g., CapCut)

Job Responsibilities:

This is what you’ll be doing:

  • Plan, build and deliver email communications that reduce friction and move users from intention to action at key stages of the user journey (onboarding, activation, nudges, re-engagement)
  • Support the creation and ongoing improvement of automated email journeys using platforms such as HubSpot and Dotdigital
  • Help segment audiences using behavioural and engagement data to ensure timely and relevant communications
  • Write clear, value-led messaging that focuses on user motivation
  • Review performance data to understand how communications drive user action (e.g. sign-ups, applications, repeat engagement)
  • Use insights to test, refine and optimise communications, measuring success by behavioural outcomes (e.g. logins, applications, repeat engagement)
  • Support a test-and-learn approach by refining messaging, timing and sequencing based on results and feedback
  • Provide practical recommendations to improve the effectiveness of lifecycle communications over time
  • Monitor trends, tools and best practices to inform strategies
  • Explore, develop and schedule content on our main social media accounts, ensuring requests are addressed and colleagues are kept up-to-date with plans
  • Support the fundraising team to advertise fundraising events and increase donation revenue
  • Upload news stories and blogs to the RVS website; contribute to discussions about website content and wider comms
  • Work with the social media manager to create advertising campaigns across social channels to support charity goals, recruitment and brand recognition
  • Create content and assets for campaigns and activities across social media, news channels and blogs
  • Contribute to influencer outreach and celebrity engagement to reach new audiences
  • Collaborate with local RVS teams so they can access their regional Facebook pages; provide training and assets to support central campaigns
  • Utilise scheduling tools (e.g., Orlo) and reporting tools to measure impact and improve social media performance
  • Interact with audiences; respond to comments and questions promptly, professionally and positively; escalate issues as needed to protect the charity’s reputation
  • Provide support to the Virtual Village Hall social media team when necessary
  • Produce engaging copy for volunteers, the public, charities and staff
  • Support internal communications activities, including staff updates and webinars
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver communications aligned to organisational priorities
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the post

There may be a requirement to work out of hours to seize social media opportunities, for example if Royal Voluntary Service features on TV or radio.
