Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Civil Infrastructure Design Engineer to lead the design and delivery of the civil and site infrastructure required for high‑power Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) installations.
This includes site layouts, cable ducting networks, trenching strategies, foundations, and the supporting infrastructure required for the installation of our Hyper Charger solutions and third‑party EVSE.
Working at the intersection of Engineering, Infrastructure Delivery, PMO and Commercial teams, this role will play a pivotal part in creating and supporting delivery of feasible, compliant, and cost‑effective infrastructure designs that minimise delivery risk and optimise programme outcomes from feasibility through to construction.
The role combines technical leadership with hands‑on design responsibility.
The successful candidate will manage external design partners when internal capacity is exceeded and collaborate closely with ICPs, contractors, DNOs, IDNOs and equipment suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead the design of civil and site infrastructure for high‑power EV charging installations, producing cost‑optimised and compliant designs from feasibility through to construction.
- Capture and manage customer requirements in collaboration with the infrastructure delivery team, ensuring these are effectively incorporated into the design solution.
- Create and maintain design packs and supporting documentation for feasibility assessments, tender submissions and construction including:
- Site layouts, dimensions and levels
- Charger and equipment foundations
- Vehicle swept‑path analysis
- Ducting and trenching layouts, routing and cross‑sections
- Associated civil infrastructure details and specifications
- Ensure feasibility through the interpretation of mapping, existing site CAD & drawings, feasibility studies and survey information, including utility, GPR, topographical and lighting.
- Apply industry best practice and relevant standards to ensure designs are safe, compliant, buildable and commercially viable.
- Lead design reviews and value engineering activities to optimise constructability, programme and cost.
- Design Management and Resource Coordination
- Manage multiple concurrent design workstreams, proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
- Plan and manage internal design resource capacity across the portfolio of active projects.
- Engage and manage external design partners where additional capacity or specialist expertise is required.
- Review and assure the quality, accuracy and timeliness of externally produced design outputs.
- Utility and Electrical Infrastructure Coordination
- Coordinate with DNOs, IDNOs, ICPs and other stakeholders to support the delivery of LV and HV electrical connections.
- Identify and resolve utility and connection‑related constraints that could impact project delivery.
- Support planning applications and related technical submissions where required.
- Project Delivery Support
- Support the preparation of construction documentation, including method statements, risk assessments and CDM handover information.
- Provide technical support to infrastructure delivery teams, ICPs and contractors during construction, resolving design and site issues in a timely manner.
- Support customer engagement throughout project delivery to ensure requirements are met and expectations are effectively managed.
- Process Ownership and Continuous Improvement
- Own and develop the infrastructure design process, ensuring it meets the needs of internal and external stakeholders and supports efficient project delivery.
- Maintain robust change control, document management and revision processes, ensuring design information is effectively communicated across the business.
- Drive continuous improvement through the incorporation of lessons learned, construction feedback and customer insights.
- Maintain high standards of quality, consistency and governance across all design outputs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or a related discipline (BEng, MEng or equivalent).
- Significant experience creating civil infrastructure designs from feasibility through to construction.
- Experience designing utility and electrical infrastructure interfaces, including cable ducting networks, trenching, foundations and associated civil works.
- Strong proficiency in Auto CAD (2D) and production of high‑quality technical drawings and design documentation.
- Experience interpreting survey data including topographical, utility and GPR surveys to inform design development.
- Experience coordinating with utility providers and electrical infrastructure stakeholders, including DNOs, IDNOs and ICPs.
- Demonstrable experience leading design workstreams and delivering projects with minimal supervision.
- Experience managing external design consultancies or outsourced design partners.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and balancing competing priorities and delivery schedules.
- Experience reviewing, coordinating and assuring the quality of externally produced design outputs.
- Experience in EV charging infrastructure, energy infrastructure or electrical connection projects.
- Experience in the renewables, utilities, highways or power infrastructure sectors.
- Experience supporting planning applications and construction delivery activities.
- Experience using Autodesk Inventor or other 3D design tools.
- Knowledge of high‑power charging systems, industry standards, regulation and site planning considerations for EV infrastructure.
- Progress towards or achievement of professional accreditation such as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.
- Strong civil and infrastructure design capability with a focus on practical, buildable and cost‑effective solutions.
- Ability to translate engineering requirements into compliant, constructable designs that minimise risk, cost and programme impacts.
- Excellent CAD drawing, technical detailing and design documentation skills.
- Strong understanding of utility infrastructure coordination and the interfaces between civil and electrical design.
- Ability to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary stakeholders including internal teams, customers, contractors, utilities and external design partners.
- Strong project management and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Effective problem‑solving and decision‑making skills, with the ability to resolve technical and delivery challenges quickly and pragmatically.
