Volta is the category-defining, fully vertically integrated AI infrastructure platform – from capital to clusters to software, under a founder-led enterprise. Our mission is The Utility of Compute™: AI infrastructure as dependable and available as electricity, for every organization that needs it. We are 100+ people across London, Palo Alto, and New York, with rapid growth expectations to hundreds.

The Senior People Operations Specialist is a key member of Volta's People Operations team, responsible for delivering a seamless, compliant and high-quality employee experience across the entire employee lifecycle. Reporting to the Head of People Operations, this hands‑on role ensures the smooth execution of hiring, onboarding, employee changes, leave management, payroll administration and offboarding for a rapidly growing international workforce.

We are looking for an experienced People Operations professional who understands the complexities of supporting a global workforce, thrives in a fast‑paced scaling environment, and is passionate about building operational excellence.

Alongside delivering day‑to‑day People Operations, you will identify opportunities to simplify and automate processes, document scalable ways of working, strengthen compliance and controls, and help build a world‑class People Operations function capable of supporting Volta's continued international growth.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Deliver the operational execution of the end‑to‑end employee lifecycle across all jurisdictions, including offers, contracts, onboarding, employee changes, family leave, absence, probation, promotions and offboarding.
  • Prepare high‑quality employment documentation, including contracts, contract amendments, side letters and termination documentation, using approved templates and escalating complex or non‑standard cases.
  • Coordinate global immigration and right‑to‑work processes, including maintaining records required to meet UK Sponsor License obligations and supporting visa compliance across other jurisdictions.
  • Act as the first point of contact for employees and managers on People Operations policies, processes, documentation and employment matters, resolving queries independently and escalating complex cases.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of employment legislation and statutory requirements across the countries in which Volta operates, ensuring People processes and documentation remain compliant.
  • Manage the operational delivery of Employer of Record (EOR) and Professional Employer Organization (PEO) arrangements, ensuring providers deliver accurate, compliant employment documentation and processes.
  • Ensure People data is processed in accordance with UK GDPR and equivalent international privacy legislation, including data retention, access requests and data minimization.
  • Act as the day‑to‑day administrator of Deel (HRIS), maintaining the accuracy and integrity of employee records, compensation, organisational structures and employment documentation.
  • Manage data flows between Deel, Ashby, Carta, payroll providers and other People systems, and produce accurate People reporting including headcount, attrition, diversity, absence and turnover.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and automate People Operations processes, documenting standard operating procedures to embed operational knowledge within the team.

What You Bring

  • Substantial people operations or HR operations experience, including a period in a scaling organisation where process had to be built rather than followed.
  • Demonstrable multi‑jurisdictional experience running lifecycle operations and employment documentation across several countries, ideally spanning both Europe and North America.
  • Strong working knowledge of people operations best practice: lifecycle process design, documentation standards, service levels, data hygiene and controls.
  • Working knowledge of UK employment law and right‑to‑work requirements, and the judgement to recognise when a local rule elsewhere overrides the UK default.
  • Sound understanding of data protection in an HR context under UK GDPR.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong spreadsheet and data skills.
  • Absolute discretion with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and volume, and able to prioritise without close supervision.
