The Service department is vital to the success of our business. Service Technicians/Mechanics play a pivotal role in delivering first-time fixes and excellent customer service to delight customers and encourage loyalty. The role is varied, with responsibilities including diagnostics, inspection, and maintenance of a wide range of vehicle technologies across traditional, hybrid, and electronic engines. This is an apprenticeship with opportunities for long-term career development and progression.
Responsibilities
- Use diagnostic equipment to identify vehicle faults.
- Test parts and systems to ensure correct operation.
- Follow checklists to ensure critical areas are examined.
- Carry out bumper-to-bumper overview, service, and inspections.
- Maintain electronic systems, including on-board entertainment systems.
- Repair and maintain vehicle parts such as clutches, gearboxes, tyres, brakes, and suspension.
- Complete legible and accurate paperwork for customers and centre records.
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment.
- Work with a wide range of products including traditional, hybrid, and electronic engines.
Training and location
Training is delivered through a combination of virtual classroom remote learning and face-to-face block release weeks at our state-of-the-art training centre. Successful applicants must be prepared to travel to the Volkswagen Group National Learning Centre in Milton Keynes to complete apprenticeship training. All training-related costs are fully covered, including travel, accommodation, and meals. A personal mentor will support continued learning as you apply skills gained through remote sessions and at the National Learning Centre. You will also have the opportunity to attend Outward Bound for personal development, focusing on resilience, confidence, and teamwork. This is a fully rounded training experience earning apprenticeship qualifications and brand certifications.
Qualifications
On successful completion of the three-year programme, you will receive:
- Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (Light Vehicle)
- Certificate in Automotive Refrigerant Handling
- Brand-specific certifications
- Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales: Framework Level 2 progressing to Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician (VRQ/VCQ)
- Level 2 progressing to Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician
- GCSE grades 9-4 (A-C) or equivalent in English, Maths and Science. In Scotland, applicants must have or be predicted to achieve Scottish National 5 Grades A-C in English, Maths, and either a Science or Technical subject.
