In this role you will own and plan Cloud Adoption in VWFS UK. Your overall purpose will be to define and implement a Cloud Strategy and manage the cloud platform roadmap as VWFS UK aims to become a cloud-first company. Reporting to the Head of Software Engineering, you will be primarily focused on leading the adoption strategy and managing the cost model and technology roadmap.

This is what you could be doing:

  • Implement a VWFS UK cloud strategy, including cloud platform adoption and migration roadmap working with Product Owners in the enterprise products teams to ensure the migration of productive revenue generating services to Cloud technology and overall value from cloud investments.
  • Find a positive business case to migrate legacy applications into cloud platform, including application re-architecting if required to make them cloud ready.
  • Define a Cloud Target Operating Model to cater for different models including public/private/hybrid and IaaS/PaaS/SaaS and technologies (AWS, PCF, Azure).
  • Engage with guide and support senior stakeholders (Software Engineering, IT SLT and BoM members) to ensure understanding and buy-in for the Cloud platform.
  • Analyse models to operate different workloads leveraging the most appropriate cloud model.
  • Define Cloud and backend systems integration requirements and guidelines to enable new digital channels that are key to support VWFS UK strategic targets.
  • Maintain cloud-readiness criteria that applications and solutions must comply with for being on-boarded (level of cloudification , support model, monitoring, error handling, documentation, licensing, fulfilling platform policies/code of conduct, security, CI/CD toolchain, etc.).
  • Maintain cloud governance framework including requirements for acceptance criteria and proper cloud use ensuring VWFS UK Cloud Operating Model maintains the cloud platform compliant with legal, security and regulatory aspects (e.g. BaIT/ECB/FCA-specific).
  • Agree with architecture and development teams the requirements for connectivity and integration between cloud, on premise and 3rd party applications and services.
  • Maintain the Cloud Platform backlog and roadmap to deliver the priorities for VWFS UK.
  • Identify cloud skill gaps and develop a training plan to upskill existing resources across IT teams.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in designing and implementing cloud solutions at least using one of the following cloud technologies: AWS, MS Azure and/or Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
  • Knowledge and proven experience in at least one of the following IT domains: Architecture, Software Engineering or Operations
  • Experience reviewing new cloud platforms, designs, and services to ensure sound security practices are considered at design stage
  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills, with the ability to influence senior decision-makers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex data and arguments in a way that is accessible to everyone
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, negotiation and organisational skills
  • You have experience with agile software development, a software engineering role and running and operating cloud platforms at scale
