About The Role
One Aftersales are recruiting for a Product Safety Specialist on a part time (23.5 hours), permanent basis. Although the role is based in Milton Keynes, regular travel across the UK will be required. Reporting into the Senior Product Quality Manager, you will be responsible for managing product safety activities, including safety case investigations, network support and liaison with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective resolution and brand protection.
What you will be doing:
- Operate the safety reporting process, providing advice and guidance to brand networks on safety-related queries which includes answering queries from brand networks of a safety related nature, providing repair advice and guidance and escalating to factory departments where appropriate to resolution.
- Investigate product safety cases and allegations, liaising with UK Legal, AG departments, insurers and external stakeholders.
- Evaluate product allegations for risk and impact, including field inspections and detailed reporting.
- Represent Volkswagen Group UK in safety cases, including expert witness support where required.
- Identify potential product issues through case analysis and upscale to factory departments via approved processes.
- Manage safety case reporting through collaboration with Technical, Quality, Customer, PR and Warranty teams.
- Maintain up-to-date technical expertise to support effective decision making.
- Liaise with external agencies (e.g. Police and Fire Brigade) on product safety incidents.
- Support Environmental and Product Compliance activities as part of VWG UK governance frameworks.
- Role is expected to develop into areas such as vehicle data retrieval to support forensic and technical documentation.
Skills & experience you can bring to the role:
- High level automotive technical expertise (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC or equivalent).
- Strong ability to gather and assess evidence using a structured, forensic approach.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders across networks and factories.
- Experience of safety case investigation, including scene examination, evidence interpretation, and reporting.
- Ability to present complex technical issues clearly to a wide audience i.e. external bodies (insurers, independent experts, emergency services, DVSA).
- Strong diagnostic, problem-solving capability and attention to detail.
- Detailed knowledge of technical structures, brands and retailer networks.
- Formal qualifications such as CFEI and CVFI are required but not mandatory and can be completed once in role.
