VolkerRail Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working through joint ventures and alliance schemes. Collaborative working agreements are a proven strategy for delivering large, complex railway projects, and through its strong relationships with other major contractors, VolkerRail Major Projects has helped to deliver several of the biggest rail projects over the last decade. The SID is a fully integrated team that will bring together the strengths, capabilities, and knowledge of the partners and Network Rail. It will own the renewals work bank, manage it at portfolio level and drive a transition to a production management ethos. The SID is commercially aligned and jointly incentivised creating a "share in success" environment. Business partners within the alliance will generate profit through performance against the Final Determination.
You will:
- Ensure all activities are in compliance with Company standards and procedures.
- Lead, motivate and direct staff in Production to complete the programme works to the required specification, in a safe and compliant manner and at least cost to VolkerRail.
- Determine methods of work and plant to be used on site.
- Lead and produce programmes (hour by hour / TILOS) for the delivery of the work.
- Seek alternative methods to improve productivity, safety and quality.
- Ensure required "HOLD" and / or "GO / NO GO" points are reflected in the programmes of works.
- Assist in the production and review of method statements, safety plans and train workings.
- Ensure contingencies are in place, all risks are controlled and make improvements as appropriate.
- Line Management of Site Manager, Supervisors, including monitoring of performance, and give guidance on planning, preparation and implementation of works, ensuring action plans are produced to address shortfalls.
- Ensure resource allocation (labour, plant and materials) is compliant and in line with construction budgets, reporting any deviance to the Project Manager.
- Ensure adequate resources are in place to complete the planned works.
- Monitor work progressed against programme and specification.
- Initiate changes to deficiencies and advise the Project Manager accordingly.
- Responsible for ensuring that initial site briefings are carried out prior to any work commencing.
- Ensure close liaison and communication with other parts of the SRE functions.
- Ensure People, Plant and machinery carry out works in a safe compliant manner.
- Manage staff discipline, appraisals, rostering and identifying progress and training needs.
- Ensure staffing is rostered for the works and that there are no gaps in required people or roles to effectively and safely deliver the works.
- Responsible for ensuring the Site Access Controller (where provided) maintains all site safety and delivery records relevant to the project on a shift by shift basis.
- Responsible for ensuring that at each site the required health and safety standards are maintained, including site tidiness, PPE adherence, required briefs are effectively undertaken and understood, works are being undertaken in accordance with the planned arrangements, and all controls are sufficient and being upheld.
- Responsible for the production of accurate contemporary site records and liaison with the Project Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.
- Ensure the material and plant resource requirements are issued to the depot supervisor and that they are delivered and stored safely.
- Provide level 1 on‑call assistance to the Project Manager.
- Ensure site reporting and escalation is undertaken in an effective and timely manner.
- Act as the Single Point of Contact / Site Lead as required.
- Ensure that every site and every shift has a competent planned and appointed Controlling Mind for the works.
- Produce, lead and communicate accurate and reflective Whiteboards to determine the safe working arrangements and deconfliction worksites.
Experience:
- Proven experience in Construction works including an appropriate period of time acting in a Managerial or Supervisory capacity.
- Project planning, sequencing of works.
- Commercial awareness and ability to produce and maintain construction budgets.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations.
- SCW Competencies: PTS, DCCR First Aid at Work Driving.
- Full Driving Licence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Proactive approach.
