Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working, leading on large, multidisciplinary joint venture and alliance projects. Specialist Businesses is made up of expert divisions in signalling, track, power, electrification, and piling, and has an in-house plant division and bespoke design teams. Here at VolkerRail, we are recruiting for a Payroll Supervisor to lead our payroll team (talented team of 3), manage daily operations, and deliver accurate weekly and four‑weekly payrolls in partnership with our Group Payroll team. Reporting into our Finance Manager, you will be leading people, streamlining processes, all whilst delivering great service.
- Process and run end‑to‑end weekly and four‑weekly payrolls with precision.
- Oversee and prioritise the team’s daily workload to meet deadlines.
- Handle payroll queries with confidence and clarity.
- Coach and develop our team, driving continuous improvement.
- Produce accurate statutory reports, payroll summaries, and KPI dashboards.
- Support HR, Finance, and wider business needs with timely payroll data.
About you
- Demonstrable payroll experience across multiple pay patterns, coupled with experience of managing (leading, coaching and developing) a team.
- Knowledge of Sick Leave, Parental Pay, and P11D/payrolled benefits.
- Sharp attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
- Confident communication and a customer‑focused mindset.
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots) and an analytical approach.
- An innovator with a drive for continuous improvement.
- Experience supporting or working on implementation projects.
- Experience of Payroll systems.
