Our specialist in-house traffic management division provides expert advice and support across the industry, whilst assisting with our own, in-house contracts.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our ICP & EV team at VolkerHighways in Hoddesdon. This role is key to ensuring commercial success on our projects by managing costs, maximising recovery, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary commercial contact on site, advising project teams on contractual and financial matters.
- Ensure accurate cost and value reporting, monitor WIP, and identify risks with mitigation strategies.
- Procure and manage subcontractors, including tender analysis, rate negotiations, issuing instructions, and resolving disputes.
- Process subcontractor payments with supporting documentation and maintain compliance with conditions and key documents.
- Measure works on site, maintain records, enter data into systems, and manage variations, quotations, and income agreements.
- Track certifications, payments, and resolve disputes efficiently.
- Prepare monthly CVR reports, forecasts, accruals, and maintain liability and recovery reports.
- Reconcile receipts, manage aged debt, and support contract forecasting and controls.
- Authorise invoices, ensure accurate contra charges, and maintain works management system administration.
- Prepare and submit client KPIs and financial reports, keeping logs and status reports accurate and up to date.
About You:
We're looking for a commercially astute and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor who thrives in a dynamic environment. To succeed in this role, you'll bring:
- Proven experience in quantity surveying within highways or civil engineering projects.
- Working experience of NEC and/or JCT contracts and their administration.
- Strong understanding of subcontract and main contract management.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills, confident in client-facing situations.
- Ability to analyse costs, forecast accurately, and manage financial risks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
- A collaborative approach and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Experience on large scale scheme delivery with change management requirements preferred but not essential.
- Experience with EV or Street Lighting preferred but not essential.
