VolkerRail Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working through joint ventures and alliance schemes. Collaborative working agreements are a proven strategy for delivering large, complex railway projects, and through its strong relationships with other major contractors, VolkerRail Major Projects has helped to deliver several of the biggest rail projects over the last decade. The SID is a fully integrated team that will bring together the strengths, capabilities, and knowledge of the partners and Network Rail. It will own the renewals work bank, manage it at portfolio level and drive a transition to a production management ethos. The SID is commercially aligned and jointly incentivised creating a ‘share in success’ environment.
An opportunity has arisen for 3 experienced Project Engineers - Track to join Major Projects initially working on the Southern Integrated Delivery project. You will be responsible for:
- Planning, coordination, and delivery of track renewal works, ensuring all activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards and company procedures.
- Leading projects across both planning and site phases, from initial preparation through to completion and handback.
- Managing site teams, reviewing technical documentation, and making informed engineering decisions to ensure successful delivery.
- Activities such as track renewals, tamping, and 3D-controlled works, ensuring all outputs meet required tolerances and specification standards.
- Maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity during possessions, while ensuring works are completed in line with programme and engineering requirements.
About you
- Self-motivated with a pro-active approach and experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
- Experience working within a rail engineering or track renewals environment.
- Proven experience delivering track renewals, including tamping and 3D-controlled works.
- Ability to lead works across both planning and site delivery phases.
- Competent in reviewing and interpreting technical documentation.
- Knowledge of track systems including geometry, stressing, and installation practices.
- Understanding of required track tolerances and quality standards.
- Experience in preparing, coordinating, and following up on site works.
- Ability to manage and supervise teams, subcontractors, and site activities.
- Strong understanding of safety requirements and ability to implement safe systems of work.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues in real time during site operations.
- Good communication skills with the ability to liaise with multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
- Awareness of programme requirements and ability to deliver works within possession constraints.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience of Trimble Business Centre and WIN-ALC.
- Must have full UK Driving licence.
