VolkerRail Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working through joint ventures and alliance schemes. Collaborative working agreements are a proven strategy for delivering large, complex railway projects, and through its strong relationships with other major contractors, VolkerRail Major Projects has helped to deliver several of the biggest rail projects over the last decade. The SID is a fully integrated team that will bring together the strengths, capabilities, and knowledge of the partners and Network Rail. It will own the renewals work bank, manage it at portfolio level and drive a transition to a production management ethos. The SID is commercially aligned and jointly incentivised creating a ‘share in success’ environment. Business partners within the alliance will generate profit through performance against the Final Determination.

The four partners, VolkerFitzpatrick, Octavius, Atkins, and VolkerRail are aligned to the core asset disciplines with the fifth partner, Network Rail Minor Works, being multi‑disciplinary for low complexity, low value works. We have an excellent opportunity for a Project Accountant working in our Tonbridge Depot on the Southern Integrated Delivery Project.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring the integrity of the project’s financial information.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly management account, CVRs and project out-turn forecast to both the project management team and to parent company and finance departments.
  • Ensure that margin earned is calculated correctly in relation to Affiliate, Sub‑Alliance and overall ‘Ring‑fenced’ Fee.
  • To ensure all period end adjustments and journals are submitted and entered and period close is achieved.
  • Ensure that costs are charged accurately to the relevant contract and section code, using information provided from the project team and systems.
  • To participate in monthly cost review meetings with the client auditor and commercial team to substantiate and evidence all actual costs incurred.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained over balance sheet accounts by performing periodic reconciliations, investigating entries made, and maintaining documentary evidence for audit purposes.
  • Preparation and submission of monthly CIS and VAT returns to statutory deadline.
  • To prepare and review monthly Subcontract and Purchase Ledger payment runs and to ensure they are paid as they fall due.
  • Liaise with procurement, commercial and operational teams where necessary to provide wider support towards the positive outcome of the project.
  • Liaise with central finance teams of all partners and auditors to resolve any queries/issues arising from duties undertaken.
  • Participate and justify to auditors in order to maximise the allowed costs in a timely manner and minimise disallowed costs where possible.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as directed.

About you

  • Accountancy degree – CIMA or ACA
  • Experience in a similar role
