Metro and Rail Projects (MRP) have extensive experience of working on high profile projects for most of the UK’s light rail and tram operators and on the UK heavy rail network. We are recognised as a market leader for the provision of renewal and minor enhancements services to the light rail sector and as a supplier of choice to the wider rail market. Our specialist teams continue to offer high quality track construction, maintenance and renewals to a wide range of clients including: Nottingham Express Transit, Manchester Metrolink, Sheffield Supertram, and London Tramlink as well as a number of Major Contractors on the heavy rail network.
We have a great opportunity for a Track Operative - Platelayer to work on a new project initially based in Sheffield. You will be responsible for:
- Ensure all activities are compliant with Safety and Quality procedure.
- Site productivity and delivery as instructed by Foreman and Chargehand.
- Implement all instructions received from Foreman and Chargehand.
- Organisation and control of allocated site operatives including but not restricted to: subcontract labour, plant operators.
- Delivery of allocated work packages in accordance with safety, quality and technical requirements as directed by Foreman.
- Assist Foreman to lead and direct gang(s) of men in a safe manner on all VolkerRail sites in the absence of a Chargehand.
- Undertake any necessary training as directed.
- Maintain good site discipline.
- Be of presentable appearance commensurate with allocated duties at all times.
- Work as directed at all times.
- Promote the awareness of VolkerRail in a positive manner at all times.
- Alert Senior Management to any non-conformance or deficiency in quality, materials, services or workmanship.
- Ensure site noise is kept to a minimum and disruption to the railway’s neighbours is kept to a minimum.
- Liaise and communicate with VolkerRail staff and contractors plus all relevant external contacts as required in order to discharge the duties and responsibilities of this JD/SRS.
The discharge of these safety critical duties and responsibilities within this JD/SRS and any other safety critical competencies are mandatory upon the post holder.
About you
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Experience in the Rail Industry is advantageous but not essential
