An opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice Quality Engineer to join Volker Rail Specialist Businesses, supporting our Plant team based in Scunthorpe.
Key Duties
- Support the VR Plant Audit Program, completing audits of Plant processes and operations, ensuring items requiring attention are resolved with responsible managers and recorded on the VolkerRail audit database.
- Complete an apprenticeship within the first two years of employment.
- Conduct Depot and Site Inspections for the Plant business area.
- Champion the non-conformance and corrective action process and work with the relevant individuals to ensure timely and effective close out of actions.
- Analyse NCR trends to identify targeted areas for improvement.
- Support with the Right First Time initiative, ensuring identified issues are appropriately recorded and communicated.
- Attend monthly business SLGs and weekly improvement calls, reporting on quality focus areas and monitoring KPIs.
- Monitor the Plant Assurance Plan and input/review data to determine ‘planned vs actual’ and highlight any emerging trends, reporting on findings to management.
- Support the Engineering Managers with the analysis of defect reports to identify trends and targeted areas for improvement.
- Support with the development and delivery of quality based training workshops as required.
- Support Plant in maintaining external accreditations (such as 3rd party audits by BSI, ECM and other Clients, actioning any resulting improvement plans).
- Occasional evening, weekend and night shift work where required.
About you
You will be self-motivated with a pro-active approach and have experience of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines. Problem solving, communication and good interpersonal skills are a key requirement for this role. The role will be based at our operational depot in Frodingham (Scunthorpe), with some travel to visit sites. The candidate will also ideally have the following experience/skill set:
- Level 3 qualification or equivalent GCSE Maths and English C+
- Transferable soft skills gained from work experience or volunteering.
- Proficient in MS office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Excellent data analysis skills.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Full driving license.
