We own and operate a wide range of specialist rail plant. Our teams work in collaboration with our clients on a broad variety of activities, from small installation projects through to large complex engineering schemes across the UK. Our highly skilled people hold competencies to operate and maintain a variety of on track machines such as tampers and ballast regulators, through to Kirow cranes and RRV’s with specialist attachments. We work with clients across main line railways, depots, overground mass transit networks and tramways, along with private sidings and heritage railways, delivering a variety of projects, including maintenance, overhead line installations, bridge installations and track renewals. We have a fleet of On-Track Machines (OTM) working on a long term contract with Network Rail to deliver mechanised track maintenance and infrastructure enhancements to help transform and maintain the UK rail network. Today we are also part of the East Coast Digital Programme (ECDP), delivering the European Train Control System (ETCS) on the East Coast South Mainline.

VolkerRail Plant is looking to recruit a Resource & Logistics Coordinator to join the established rostering & logistics team. The position is based in Scunthorpe and will provide support across all the Plant resource and Logistics functions. Key duties for the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure all employee rosters are created, adhering to all appropriate terms and conditions.
  • Ensure all employee rosters are created, adhering to all relevant Railway Standards.
  • Ensure that all fatigue management calculations are undertaken, and the results factored into all staff rosters.
  • Develop and maintain the rostering database to ensure information is available, including the production of internal reports.
  • Ensure confirmed plan changes are managed to ensure delivery of contracted works, including staff changes, machine change requirements, train pathing requirements (VSTP), route conductor change requirements.
  • Ensure the planning system is updated with confirmed Train paths upon receipt and that all changes are managed to ensure delivery of planned shifts.
  • Support with the logistic requirements for the Plant business – including but not limited to fuel, parts, consumables, and machine waste collection to ensure optimum machine reliability and performance.
  • Ensure all OTMR data is downloaded as per the relevant standards.
  • With the support of the Resource Coordination Manager and Logistic Manager, develop a suite of reports to brief out monthly to enable review, discussion, and necessary action.

About you

The successful candidate will also ideally have the following experience/skill set:

  • Be able to demonstrate and provide evidence of experience in a similar role within the rail/construction-related industry.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication, literacy and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints and competing priorities.
  • Flexible, proactive and positive attitude; diplomatic and patient, demonstrating exceptional initiative to coordinate multiple parties and act collaboratively.
  • Be able to maintain good relationships with experienced managers and leaders.
