Overview

Part of the VolkerWessels UK Group, VolkerStevin is an industry-leading civil engineering business delivering complex and innovative engineering solutions across sectors including maritime, flood risk management, defence, energy, water and regeneration. We collaborate with the group’s business units to provide an integrated, multidisciplinary service.

VolkerMarine Services are looking for a Sub Agent to join their team. The Marine Sub Agent / Agent is an integral member of the VolkerMarine Services Team, responsible for the effective and efficient running of the marine department from work winning through to project delivery. It is expected that the Marine Sub Agent / Agent will act professionally and maintain good working relations with clients, designers, site management, sub-contractors, suppliers and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • General: Be fully aware of and understand the requirements and implications of all applicable company policies and procedures; update personal and department information as required; act professionally and promote the company’s standards and practices.
  1. Pre-Contract
  • Engage with clients from initial enquiry to understand requirements and propose suitable solutions using Linkflote and plastic pontoons, where appropriate
  • Build quotations for proposed hire / sale
  • Create SketchUp models of proposed works including build sequences when required
  • Create CAD drawings of linkflote setups and other steelwork for pricing
  • Create material lists for procurement to price and source, supporting them with queries
  • Build pricing documents for detailed proposals, considering material, labour, transport, design costs, etc.
  • Engage with suppliers and sub-contractors during pricing of jobs
  • Provide technical advice to clients
  • Attend site visits and meet clients to support work winning
  • Build strong relationships with clients and suppliers
  1. Project Delivery
  • Produce handover packs and brief delivery teams on job requirements
  • Produce programmes for external and internal use to track progress and ensure timely delivery
  • Produce SketchUp drawings and CAD drawings for the fabrication/installation team and for the client on request
  • Produce lift plans
  • Produce stability calculations
  • Support in tracking project costs
  • Request task orders for design work completion
  • Assist the Marine installation teams with RAMS
  • Assist the commercial team with costs evidence for CE’s and EWN’s

Site Management Plan

  • Ensure all project aspects are managed responsibly and align with the client’s aims, with specific regard to HSEQ
  • Be aware of others’ responsibilities
  • Raise risks or concerns at the earliest opportunity

About you

  • Degree/HNC, or equivalent, in Naval Architecture or a marine background
  • Minimum of 3-5 years varied site experience in a marine environment
  • Successful achievement of professional qualification
  • Excellent IT knowledge including AutoCAD, SketchUp and Microsoft Office
