Graduate Quantity Surveyors, VolkerStevin are hiring for this year’s Commercial Graduate intake. This is an opportunity to join a Tier 1 Civil Engineering company and begin your career with an industry-leading business that supports growth and development.

Our Recruitment Process

  • Application Review – Our early careers team will review your application to assess your suitability for the programme.
  • Assessment Centre and Interviews – A day of practical exercises, group tasks, or technical discussions followed by an interview with a recruiting manager. This will be held in April at our Head Office in Preston.
  • Offer – Successful candidates will be contacted with an offer and provided with next steps.

We aim to keep candidates informed throughout the process and will provide updates at each stage.

Graduate Quantity Surveyor overview

Reporting to the Quantity Surveyor/Project Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor, the Graduate QS is required to assist Quantity, Project Quantity Surveyors and Senior Surveyors in their duties.

Target roles and responsibilities

TENDER

  • Assist the Bid team as appropriate; tasks could include:
  • Compile subcontractor enquiry documentation
  • Compare returned subcontract quotations
  • Record and archive all tender documentation for project handover

PRE-CONSTRUCTION

  • Be involved where possible with the tender handover to the project team
  • Understand the project and relevant constraints
  • Review tender offer and documents to develop understanding of content and meaning
  • Review tender book allowances, risk and scope to identify additional areas of risk and scope
  • Understand subcontract/self-delivery split of the works
  • Assist with reallocation of tender book allowances as needed
  • Understand the tender program, constraints and logic

Subcontract and Consultants management

  • Assist in the accurate measurement of subcontractors’ works
  • Maintain records of subcontractors’ work and validate account records
  • Prepare subcontract payment notices for approval
  • Produce subcontract payments for approval on the basis that work is carried out per contract and to the required quality
  • Ensure subcontract payments are based on accurate valuation and follow the correct governance and approval process
  • Assist in compiling subcontractor liabilities and accruals

About you

Required Qualifications / Expertise

  • Essential: To have undertaken at least one year industrial work placement as a trainee QS (if Graduate QS)
  • Continued professional development (CPD)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Flexibility in working locations as VolkerStevin operates nationwide
