We have the capability to deliver major surfacing and public realm infrastructure projects. Our specialist in‑house traffic management division provides expert advice and support across the industry, whilst assisting with our own, in‑house contracts.
We are seeking a talented Bid Writer to join our team in Hoddesdon and help us secure future work through high‑quality, compelling tender submissions. As a Bid Writer, you’ll lead and coordinate the development of clear, high‑scoring written responses for SQs, ITTs and framework tenders. You’ll translate technical expertise into persuasive proposals that reflect our strengths, meet client requirements, and maximise our win rates.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce well‑structured, compliant and persuasive responses for highways, street lighting and technology tenders.
- Interpret client requirements, scoring criteria and evaluation guidance to shape targeted, winning content.
- Plan response structures, storyboards and win themes to ensure clarity and consistency.
- Work closely with operational, technical, commercial and sustainability teams to gather and refine information.
- Draft, edit and quality‑check content, ensuring accuracy, evidence and alignment with the VolkerHighways brand.
- Support internal review stages (blue, pink, red, gold) and ensure all submissions are completed to deadline.
- Develop case studies and evidence to support a user‑friendly bid library.
- Preferable: contribute to document layout, template design and visual elements that strengthen our proposals.
About you
- Experience writing successful bids in highways, street lighting, technology, or other regulated public‑sector settings.
- Strong understanding of UK public sector procurement and evaluation (e.g. NEC, frameworks).
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of Adobe/ InDesign for document design and formatting.
