The Role
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Remain hands-on with architecture, technical design, and delivery.
- Drive engineering best practices, quality standards, and technical excellence.
- Own the delivery of core platform services and customer-facing applications.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data, DevOps, and Quality Engineering teams.
- Support the evolution of a modern cloud-native technology platform.
- Champion engineering efficiency through automation, tooling, and AI-assisted development workflows.
- Help shape long-term technical strategy and platform architecture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead delivery across multiple products, services, and engineering initiatives.
- Manage engineers in a player-coach capacity, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance support.
- Design, develop, and optimise scalable backend services using C# and .NET.
- Apply modern software architecture principles, including domain-driven design and event-driven architectures.
- Ensure systems are secure, observable, resilient, and scalable.
- Promote high standards across software development, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and operational excellence.
- Work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, tooling, and ways of working.
- Encourage adoption of modern AI-assisted engineering practices where appropriate.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
- Strong hands-on software engineering experience with C# and .NET.
- Experience designing and building distributed, service-oriented, event-driven systems.
- Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and observability.
- Hands-on experience working with AWS cloud environments.
- Experience working with modern AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
- Ability to translate complex business problems into scalable technical solutions.
- Strong ownership mindset with accountability for delivery and operational reliability.
- Experience modernising or re-platforming legacy applications.
- Front-end development experience using React and TypeScript.
- Experience working within highly regulated or data-intensive industries.
- Exposure to Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
- Experience operating within high-growth SaaS or technology businesses.
