You will play a key role in shaping technical direction, mentoring engineers, driving engineering excellence, and delivering high-quality software solutions within a complex, data-intensive environment. The role offers a balance of leadership and hands-on engineering, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building teams while remaining close to technology and product development.

The Role

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
  • Remain hands-on with architecture, technical design, and delivery.
  • Drive engineering best practices, quality standards, and technical excellence.
  • Own the delivery of core platform services and customer-facing applications.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Data, DevOps, and Quality Engineering teams.
  • Support the evolution of a modern cloud-native technology platform.
  • Champion engineering efficiency through automation, tooling, and AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Help shape long-term technical strategy and platform architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery across multiple products, services, and engineering initiatives.
  • Manage engineers in a player-coach capacity, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance support.
  • Design, develop, and optimise scalable backend services using C# and .NET.
  • Apply modern software architecture principles, including domain-driven design and event-driven architectures.
  • Ensure systems are secure, observable, resilient, and scalable.
  • Promote high standards across software development, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and operational excellence.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes, tooling, and ways of working.
  • Encourage adoption of modern AI-assisted engineering practices where appropriate.

What We’re Looking For

  • Previous experience leading or managing software engineering teams.
  • Strong hands-on software engineering experience with C# and .NET.
  • Experience designing and building distributed, service-oriented, event-driven systems.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, and observability.
  • Hands-on experience working with AWS cloud environments.
  • Experience working with modern AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
  • Ability to translate complex business problems into scalable technical solutions.
  • Strong ownership mindset with accountability for delivery and operational reliability.
  • Experience modernising or re-platforming legacy applications.
  • Front-end development experience using React and TypeScript.
  • Experience working within highly regulated or data-intensive industries.
  • Exposure to Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
  • Experience operating within high-growth SaaS or technology businesses.

We are looking for a leader who combines strong technical depth with excellent people management skills. The ideal candidate will be:

  • Hands-on and technically credible.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Passionate about mentoring and developing engineers.
  • Naturally collaborative and commercially aware.
  • Excited by solving complex technical challenges at scale.
  • Motivated by building high-performing teams and modern technology platforms.
