Volantes Technical Recruitment are seeking a skilled Sheet Metal Fabricator/Fitter to support the delivery of bespoke, high-quality rotary-wing aircraft solutions through prototype development, retrofit programmes, maintenance activities, and production work. The role involves manufacturing detailed sheet metal components to aviation standards, assembling and fitting parts, supporting prototype development activities, and carrying out structural repairs. Working within a workshop and hangar environment, you will collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to ensure all work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with approved design data and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manufacture detailed parts from sheet metal in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Assemble and fit components and structures using approved methods and materials.
  • Inspect subcontractor-manufactured parts to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Apply protective coatings and treatments where required.
  • Work closely with engineering and design teams on prototype and development projects.
  • Ensure all manufactured and assembled parts meet approved design standards and airworthiness requirements.
  • Carry out structural repairs using sheet metal and composite repair techniques.
  • Support maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities as required.
  • Assist with general hangar operations, including aircraft movement and handling.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-skilled team.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and operational requirements.
  • Operate within a highly regulated aviation environment, following all company procedures and safety standards.

  • Previous aviation or aerospace experience.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in Fabrication, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication, metalworking, mechanical fitting, automotive repair, or a similar technical role.
  • Ability to provide examples of previous fabrication work (photographic portfolio acceptable).
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable

  • Aerospace or aviation industry experience.
  • Sheet metal fabrication experience within a regulated environment.
  • Composite repair experience.
