Summary
The Multimedia Journalist – Sports News is a creative and versatile journalist with strong editorial judgement and a passion for high-quality sports storytelling across platforms. They will generate original content, contribute to daily planning, and collaborate with colleagues to deliver distinctive, accurate and engaging journalism.
The successful candidate will be confident working under pressure, have a good understanding of news values and media law, and demonstrate a commitment to high editorial standards. They will be expected to take initiative, work well in a team, and bring energy and ideas to the sports news agenda.
Responsibilities
- Originate, research, write, produce and present sports news content using text, stills, audio and video.
- Take editorial responsibility for assigned stories, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and impartiality.
- Collaborate with producers, editors and presenters to develop treatments that reflect strong storytelling and creative use of visuals.
- Work to newsroom standards in workflow, media management and editorial structure.
- Translate and adapt English content into Farsi/Dari to a high editorial standard.
- Contribute ideas and support the planning and development of the sports output.
- Be able to report on set and from the field when required, in various formats and for multiple platforms.
- Output bulletins and construct running orders and sequences when required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by editorial management.
Requirements
- Experience in broadcast or multimedia journalism with a track record of producing strong, creative content.
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to use video, stills and graphics to enhance audience engagement.
- Sound editorial judgement and the ability to work independently when needed.
- Knowledge of media law, including copyright and defamation.
- Good understanding of Iranian, Afghan and international sport and politics, with the ability to use this to generate original and distinctive stories.
- First (or equivalent) language Farsi or Dari, with fluency in English and the ability to write, translate and adapt content across platforms.
- Strong reporting and presentation skills, including the ability to produce content from the field.
- A collaborative approach and a commitment to the values and editorial ambitions of Volant Media.
