Working as part of a newsroom team, the Nightshift Multimedia Journalist will be responsible for delivering accurate, creative, and engaging output to our audience. The successful candidate will collaborate and contribute with colleagues and take responsibility for stories and bulletins assigned to them. The Nightshift Multimedia Journalist should be able to contribute actively and creatively to the editorial process. They will also possess the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. Nightshift Multimedia Journalists will be expected, and must be willing and able, to work overnight. They will receive nightshift uplift payments.
Responsibilities:
- Originate, research, write, produce and present material using text, stills, audio and video as required.
- Cover stories and events, accurately and impartially, and put them into an appropriate context to meet the needs of the audience.
- Write cues and scripts, use video, audio, stills and graphics to produce engaging output with maximum impact even when working to tight deadlines.
- Produce news stories, live coverage, breaking news sequences, interviews, packages, discussions, background pieces, analysis and features.
- Move a story forward by amending and updating material as required.
- Research, report, write, translate and adapt existing stories or programme material from English into Dari or Farsi.
- Output bulletins, if required, and construct running orders and sequences.
- Report in text, stills, audio or video from the field in a range of formats for all platforms.
- Foreign travel may be necessary.
- Anchor or present TV content or film and edit material as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required.
Requirements:
- Recent and relevant broadcast news or multimedia experience.
- Capacity to tell stories engagingly using video, stills and graphics, combined with the understanding of how to select the best possible story treatment.
- Proven track record of writing succinctly and accurately.
- The ability to exercise editorial judgement and display an understanding of media law.
- Comprehension of the need and capability to follow the workflow and bulletin structures.
- A wide and up-to-date knowledge of Iranian, Afghan and international affairs and the capacity to use that knowledge to generate original stories.
- In-depth understanding of Iranian and Afghan history, politics, social issues, sport and culture as well as the changing needs of the audience.
- Have Farsi/Dari as your first (or equivalent) language, fluency in English, and the ability to write, translate and adapt material accurately and to tight deadlines.
- The ability to produce original material and preferably, the ability to adapt stories for multimedia output.
- The ability to report from the field as required.
- Suitable voice and presentation skills (training can be provided but some experience).
- The ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure, either alone or in a team.
- Excellent contacts within Iran/Afghan and the Iranian/Afghanistan diaspora across politics, culture, social issues, business and sport.
- The ability and willingness to consistently work nightshifts.
